TRINITY'S HISTORY
1958 - Hobbs House Hall
Trininty Episcopal Church of Hampton, New Hampshire has a long tradition in the community dating back to the early 1950's.

The parish’s unofficial first service was held at the Old Grange Hall on September 13, 1953. The service attracted 43 worshipers and was celebrated by the Venerable Roger Barney. Two years later, Trinity was officially recognized by the Diocese as a mission in 1955, and the Reverend Parkman Howe – formerly curate at Christ Church Exeter – was named Trinity’s first Vicar.

The Grange Hall served as Trinity’s home until 1959 when Hobbs House at 200 High Street – the church’s current location – was purchased. The Right Reverend Todd Hall performed a dedication service at Hobbs House on May 17, 1959, and the church has been operating at the same location ever since.

THE VESTRY

The Vestry in an Episcopal Church is the elected leadership of the parish. As such, they are responsible for the parish’s finances, the upkeep of all property and buildings, all personnel matters, and the development of the parish’s vision for mission and ministry.

Trinity’s Vestry is comprised of two wardens, a treasurer, secretary and two at-large members. The parish’s priest is also a member of the Vestry and presides at all meetings. Trinity’s deacon also attends all Vestry meetings but does not have a vote. The vestry meets monthly on the second Tuesday at 7:00pm.

FAQs

Do I need to be a member of Trinity in order to attend worship or other Church events?
No, you do not need to be a member of Trinity Church to attend any of our offerings, including worship. Membership in the Church is an outward and visible sign of an inward commitment to the support of this congregation’s ministries, and we welcome new members gladly, but you do not need to be member to partake of our ministries.

How do I become a member of Trinity Church?
Membership as defined by the national church requires regular participation in worship, and support of the ministry of the congregation through both financial support and active participation in the congregation’s ministry, as one is able. If you are already a member of the Episcopal Church, membership in Trinity Church is accomplished through a Letter of Transfer from your previous parish. It does not matter how long ago you were active in your previous parish. Our parish administrator Nita Niemczyk can assist you.  If you are not a member of the Episcopal Church through confirmation or reception, then you will need to enroll in our confirmation or adult enquirer’s class. These are offered as needed throughout the school year.

What do I do if I want my child baptized in the church?
Trinity’s priest, Peter Lane, will meet with any parents who’d like to have their child baptized. Father Lane likes to meet with both parents and God-parents prior to the Baptism to talk about what Baptism represents and the responsibilities that both the parents and God-parents are assuming. There are four Sundays during the church year that are most appropriate for baptism, but baptisms may be arranged for any Sunday. Baptism always occurs, except in emergency situations, during the main worship service and is a chance for the congregation to welcome a new member into the Body of Christ.
