ECW National Board Meets in Puerto Rico
During the week of January 21st, the ECW National Board visited San Juan, to become familiar with women’s ministries in the Diocese of Puerto Rico as well as continue the planning for the ECW Triennial to be held in Anaheim in July of 2009.
The Diocesan staff arranged visits to daycare centers and resident homes for HIV infected and abused childes as well as the Diocesan supported hospital of St. Luke’s. The gracious hospitality of Bishop David Andres Alvarez and the ECW women of Province IX was extraordinary.
In other ECW business, the Woman to Woman program awarded a $1000 scholarship to Sharee Kelly Daniels of Perth Amboy, New Jersey to continue her education in illustration at Gibbs College. The Board also selected the Jericho Road Episcopal Housing Initiative, a house building project in Mississippi for victims of Katrina (affiliated with ERD), as the recipient of the Triennial Unified gift. It was also announced that the women of the Episcopal Diocese of Lui in the Sudan have received their grant from the Woman to Woman program to help them start a poultry farm which will enable them to become self supporting.
Progress on planning The ECW Triennial 2009 continues. Valerie Wilson of Pittsburgh was selected as the Triennial Musician and The Rev. Ellen Sloan of the Diocese of Newark, New Jersey will be the Triennial Chaplain.
The nomination for the Diocese of New Hampshire’s Honored Woman will be sent to each parish soon. Please give this information prayerful thought. This ceremony at Triennial is so meaningful to the women who have been committed to women’s ministries over the years.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Beginnings are fraught with the temptation and danger of overloading our plates with ideas and “to-do” lists that soon become burdensome and end up making us feel burned out and unsuccessful. With this in mind, I have limited my vision for this next year as President of the Trinity ECW to that which I believe is achievable and will result in a stronger, more viable and vibrant organization.
I see us beginning by strengthening communication – with each other certainly, but more importantly communicating who we are and what we do to our larger faith community. How many people know, for instance, that ECW is the oldest of lay organizations in the Episcopal Church?
Secondly, I envision us using the considerable resources available to us locally and nationally to plan and implement a year of strong programming for our general meetings that will revolve around the central theme of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals adopted by the Episcopal Church USA, and aimed at eradicating extreme poverty and its effects in the third world as well as promoting environmental sustainability. What more important work could we as stewards of God’s blessings and bounty be about?
Thirdly, my vision includes our becoming financially viable, through development of a budget with which to pursue our work along with fiscal planning to implement that budget.
I am both humble and thankful for the opportunity to serve in this way and, on behalf of our Executive Board, I extend a warm and sincere invitation to all women of Trinity Church to join us as we move forward together.
