30 Hour Famine
It was anything but quiet at Trinity Episcopal Church on this past weekend of April 4th + 5th! There you could find 12 teenagers with 2 youth leaders and our beloved Rev. Peter Lane doing a 30 hour famine to raise money for “World Vision”. We ate our last meal on Friday at noon and came together at Trinity at 5 p.m. to stay together for the next 13+ hours as we lived on water and juice. We spent our time doing some bible study, playing games and just spending time together.
The kids were split up into two teams and had challenges that they had to accomplish. One of them was to take $60.00 for each team and go to Hannaford’s. Their challenge was to bring back 5 well-balanced meals (that we could stock our food pantry with). That was really fun! The kids also had a challenge to go out into the community and carry 5 gallons of water back to our ‘home’. They got a sense of what it might be like have to seek water rather than just turning on a spout for it.
At 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, our congregation came together with a pot-luck feast to help us break our fast! During this time, we learned what it felt like (just a little) to be hungry.
We also put together a “Fingerprint Banner”. Each fingerprint represented $1.00 raised. We were thrilled to find that we had raised over $2000.00!!! If anyone would like to contribute, we are sending the money to World Vision.
**Jeff Kristiansen, Jr.,not in the picture above, was a vital part of our effort and we applaud him for having the stamina to leave us and go to work!
